Helping All Students....

Counseling Request Form

Counseling services are available to all students. As counselors, we work with students individually, in small groups, and in the classrooms. We are available to help students who need someone to listen, help with friends, and to deal with many of the daily school issues. Our main goal as counselors is to help your students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally in school. We assist students with:

developing a healthy self-concept
becoming aware of individual strengths and needs
acquiring positive coping skills in order to deal with tough issues
decision making
career planning
avoiding drug and alcohol use
mastering life-long learning skills such as responsibility, organization, self-advocacy and problem solving
community services and mental health referrals
celebrating positive body image
teasing/bullying
assertiveness skills
understanding responsibility
and other areas of academic, social, and career development.

Here's How It's Done!

Individual Counseling:

Individual counseling is done on a short-term basis.  Many anxieties and negative feelings can be eased or eliminated by having the chance to talk them out with someone.  Students can learn to set positive goals, take responsibility in making choices and improve their situations.  Kids need support during personal crises.  A student can make an appointment to see the counselor at any time by stopping by the Counseling Office.  A teacher or a parent may also recommend or request an appointment time.

Small Groups:

Small groups may focus on making friends and getting along with others, self-esteem concerns, family/life changes and loss issues such as serious illness, separation, or divorce.

Current groups being provided by Tahoe Safe Alliance and Renee’s Place are:

  • Grade 6, 7 & 8 empowerment groups led by Sierra Community House
  • Grade 6, 7 & 8  grief groups
  • Grade 7 boys group led by Positively Rolling

Classroom Guidance Lessons for all students

The counselors assist in the development of guidance curriculum for Homeroom Days as well as teach classroom guidance lessons on bullying prevention and intervention, cultural awareness, drug and alcohol prevention, and career development.
